Returned to the "City of Love" in Italy to Relive the Feelings of the Love Tragedy "Romeo and Juliet

Verona is a city spanning more than 2,000 years of history in the Veneto region of northern Italy. The medieval old town is built along the meandering Adige River, which constitutes Verona's stunning beauty, which is different in life. I visited Verona three times in the stage, and 2019 was the only time I stayed for two days to slowly experience this "City of Love" and feel its charm.

Verona is a perfect blend of the finest artistic elements from several different historical periods, and was selected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in AD 2000 as one of 55 Italian sites. Verona has a huge 1st century Roman amphitheatre (Arena di Verona) which is currently used as a venue for concerts and major opera performances,

The Old Castle (Museo di Castelvecchio) is another monument worth visiting in Verona.

Well-known love tragedy enriches Verona's legend

I loved to read Shakespeare's works since I was a child, so among the many attractions in Verona, the one that impressed me the most was "The House of Juliet", "Romeo and Juliet" is one of Shakespeare's most popular plays, describing Romeo Because of the opposition of the two families, Juliet and Juliet, their love could not be successful, and they both committed suicide and died in love. This tragedy is the background of this city, and Verona has the reputation of "the city of love".

Thought-provoking "Juliet's House"

"Juliet's House" is located in a 14th century residence. The entrance is lined with shops. You can see the entire 5-storey building through the entrance of the residence and into the courtyard. This ordinary residence attracts tourist from all over the world every year.

The Casa di Giulietta (Casa di Giulietta) is located in a 14th-century residence with a small balcony overlooking the courtyard.

In fact, the earliest version of the play took place in Siena rather than Verona, and "Juliet's Balcony" does not exist. However, Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet" describes Romeo as being on the balcony of Juliet's house to woo Juliet. Therefore, Verona built a symbolic balcony in the backyard of Juliet's house according to Shakespeare's masterpiece to attract tourists, so that tourists can worship this "Holy Land of Love". This love tragedy and Juliet's balcony are left to the people who are chasing love to think infinitely. The "Juliet's Balcony" attracts millions of visitors every year.

The bronze statue of Juliet under the balcony, because it is said that touching Juliet's right breast will bring good luck, it has been touched brightly by tourists. However, whether this is just a play, or "Juliet's Balcony" is just a scenic spot built by later generations, "Romeo and Juliet" is a pair of lovers who love each other deeply and are willing to live and die for each other. Perseverance and worldly obstruction lead to a romantic relationship that ended in tragedy, and what could have been a comedy romance turned into a sad and regrettable tragedy. This is what makes this attraction so thought-provoking.

In the vast sea of people, it is very difficult to find people who love each other. If their famiy did not oppose, they could had a happy ending. A lifelong couple died for love due to external obstruction. Isn't this kind of tragedy enough to alert the whole world to mankind? Sadly, in the real world, forgetful descendants are still repeating the same mistakes.

Since the ending of this play is that both the male and female protagonists die for love, it is impossible to have consecutive episodes, Although Shakespeare was not business-minded, the Verona people repeat this poignant love story to the tourists who yearn for love with the "House of Juliet"day after day . The tourism industry also specially provides a graffiti wall where tourists leave their love vows.

Pilgrims from all over the world flocked in an endless stream, and even the walls on both sides of the entrance were covered with vows of love from lovers, as if asking Juliet to take care of their love, so that they could "get married with their lovers".

From the love locks on the walls near the "Juliet's House" and the vows written by couples in different languages, it can be seen that although "Romeo and Juliet" is only a drama, it can span several centuries, and it still deeply touches the yearning for true love in the hearts of later generations and inspires the desire to pursue true love. When they came to the story scene with the words of Shakespeare's script, they hoped that Juliet would guide them on the path of true love and guard the true love around them to achieve fruition.

Wish the lovers all over the world

"Have a happy ending romance"

History records human footprints and reminds us to remember lessons. There are many attractions in Europe that contain profound historical meanings. When I visited Budapest in 2020, I was most saddened by the "Shoes on the Danube", which recorded the merciless massacre of Jews. While the drama reflects real life, the Juliet statue standing in the courtyard of the "Juliet House" seems to remind us:

"True love is hard to find, and a wise person should know how to be the master of his own destiny, hold his own love in his own hands, avoid making the same mistakes, and bury his life's happiness in the hands of irrelevant people."

This is the biggest emotion in my heart of my three visits to Verona so far. On the eve of Valentine's Day in 2022, I would like to use this article to bless the lovers who are bravely pursuing love all over the world "The lovers will finally be married".
