My Wonderful Stay at
Hotel Miramar, Malaga
It has been more than a decade since my last visit to Madrid. I hoped to deeply experience the beauty and humanity of this Spanish capital for my second trip in 2023. Since the hotels in different districts of Madrid have their pros and cons, which had made me hesitate for long time. Thus, it took a lot of time to book hotels beforehand. In the end, I stayed in 3 different hotels in Madrid in 6 days. In my personal travel history, the last one 'Santo Mauro Hotel' where I stayed for 3 nights is the only hotel made me feel like I was in paradise. It not only gave me a new look at the Spanish hotel industry, but also beat out the Italian hotels and rearranged the ranking of European hotels in my mind.
A Hotel with Stories
Hotel Miramar was built in 1926 by Spanish king Alfonso XIII. Since then, it has become the scene of countless stories, not only "African Fire" and other The filming location of the movie has also become the setting for Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Orson Welles, Anthony Quinn, Ernest Hotels frequented by celebrities such as Ernest Hemingway, Ruth Roman, Madame Curie or Rita Hayworth.
Additionally, Miramar has provided inspiration for many novels and stories. One of them is the Spanish novel "Miramar" by Carmen Enciso and Eloisa Navas, which tells the story of two people from different social classes who reunite in a hotel.

After completing check in at the front desk, a gentleman took me to visit the hotel. The public area of the hotel looked like what I had seen in the official website is as beautiful, luxury and exquisite.
Unique Accommodation Experience
in the Spanish Duke's Exquisite Home
Hotel Santo Mauro was originally the home of the most influential Duke of Santo Mauro in Madrid society in the 19th century. The hotel consists of three buildings, heavily influenced by French design, set in lush gardens with fountains and terraces shaded by gardens and ancient chestnut trees. Not only the attention to detail of guest room made me immerse in the classical style. The interior design of each public space is unique: the red room embodies pure French classicism, while the oriental art works collected by the Duke during his travels give the lounge a Chinese style. The bar offers a wide range of wines and small dishes, and the Duke's former library is planned as the main restaurant. Unparalleled Breakfast Experience
I usually don’t have time to have a good breakfast. When traveling in Europe, I always look forward to what kind of breakfast the hotel will prepare for us. I don’t know whether it’s affected by COVID-19, or the hotel never provides self-service buffet breakfast. This hotel let guests to order from menu and then bring every dish to individual guest. I had experienced breakfast in eight hotels for this vacation. I Would Say 'Heaven'
I had stayed in a lot of luxury 5-star hotel over the past three decades. However, Santo Mauro Hotel is not just luxury, but also attentive to the details of hospitality. They place a high priority on the needs of individual guests. As I had worked for a French based multinational company's branch office in Taiwan, I had learned that the inner communcaiton and team work between the staff of different culture are not easy. When I realized that some of the hotel staff are from different nations, I couldn't help marveling at how the management could make staff from different countries and cultures work so professionally and efficiently. It is grateful that their professional and hard work made me a heavely stay in Madrid.
Take a walk on the beach to relax and unwind
I am very afraid of the sun, so I choose to end my day trip. At dusk, I come to the beach in front of the hotel for a walk. The beach in front of the hotel is full of people swimming and playing in the sea. They sit here and watch the sea. The urban me is a rare luxury.
Sitting quietly on the beach and watching the waves, watching the waves rushing to the shore, rolling up the waves and lapping the beach, the sound of the waves seems to soothe my soul and take away the annoying things of the world.
Occasionally, seabirds stop nearby, forming an interesting picture with couples resting on the shore.
Adventure on the beach
I grabbed a handful of sand and wanted to throw it into the sea, but the fine sand in my hand flowed away from my fingers without hesitation. Who can keep the time and everything that does not belong to me? Then I was on the beach While taking a selfie, at some point a girl had come up to me and said she could take a picture for me, so we started a very long conversation, the content was incredible, but with the holidays over, and many unfulfilled dreams , I have thrown this meaningless encounter into ashes.
After the vacation, I finally returned to real life, a journey where I never knew what I would encounter ahead, and no matter how fast I moved forward, I never knew when it would end.
Regrets that can be made up for will not make people regret it for life
I regret that I was too late to book a room with sea view. However, as long as I can return to Malaga, it will not be difficult to make up for this regret. I hope I still have the opportunity to make up for this regret. Hotel Miramar, see you next time, goodbye!
